Until last week I didn’t even know how to spell it.<\/p>\n
Apparently the term really is\u00a0peoples<\/em>, so if we’re celebrating\u00a0their<\/em> day it’s really peoples’. The day of these peoples.<\/p>\n (It’s Presidents’ Day and Veterans’ Day all over again, and I’ve written about those two so many times I can’t even link a definitive answer.)<\/p>\n Dangling an apostrophe off the edge like that is the most dangerous form of punctuation there is, but I believe in this case it is apt.<\/p>\n Didn’t know you were getting a grammar lesson in addition to the history lesson.<\/p>\n Of course there are some agencies still calling this holiday “Columbus Day.” (They don’t know Columbus has been canceled.) I get trying to whitewash Coumbus, but if you really wanted to draw attention to this you should have deleted the holiday altogether.\u00a0That<\/em> would have made people notice. Would’a pissed ’em off too, and would have brought about the greatest outpouring of Columbian appreciation since 1492.<\/p>\n Hey, how come it’s Columbus Day and not Columbus’ Day?<\/p>\n Guess it doesn’t matter now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Until a year ago I had never heard of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
