In the final episode of\u00a0Curb Your Enthusiasm<\/em>, cantankerous everyman Larry David admits that he “is 76 years old and has never learned in my entire life.”<\/p>\n

That line, echoing the episode’s title (“No Lessons Learned”), was everyone’s takeaway Monday morning, and damn it was spot on for everything Larry, and\u00a0Curb<\/em>, have put forth for 25 years.<\/p>\n

(This is Larry David, much-maligned writer of the\u00a0Seinfeld<\/em> finale a quarter century ago.)<\/p>\n

I’ve been a\u00a0Seinfeld<\/em> finale apologist since 1998, so I don’t think Larry had any reason to say he was sorry.<\/p>\n

And he didn’t. Because that’s Larry David.<\/p>\n

Doubling down on the\u00a0Seinfeld<\/em> closer was just one more stick in the eye to world that Larry (at least the character he plays on TV) no doubt views with contempt and derision.<\/p>\n

Watch me do this one more time.<\/em><\/p>\n

Viewers apparently loved it, though admittedly\u00a0Curb<\/em> has more of a niche audience than did\u00a0Seinfeld<\/em>. (Let’s face it, all of TV is just more fragmented these days.)<\/p>\n

Why did we (that is, everyone else) hate the\u00a0Seinfeld<\/em> finale but love\u00a0Curb<\/em>? Have we all become more jaded and cynical over the past quarter century?<\/p>\n

Admittedly I have.<\/p>\n

And Larry?<\/p>\n

He’s exactly the same.<\/p>\n
