{"id":4718,"date":"2024-11-11T09:40:25","date_gmt":"2024-11-11T05:40:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mikeoconnelljr.com\/?p=4718"},"modified":"2024-11-11T06:52:19","modified_gmt":"2024-11-11T02:52:19","slug":"not-the-worst-idea-ever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mikeoconnelljr.com\/?p=4718","title":{"rendered":"Not the worst idea ever"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I was a kid Veterans Day was a holiday, a\u00a0<em>real<\/em> holiday with like businesses being closed and a day off from school.<\/p>\n<p>It would be easy for me to say: Come on, schools, you give us holidays on Diwali and Eid and Yom Kippur but not the one that celebrates those who served in the American military?<\/p>\n<p>(It\u00a0<em>would<\/em> be fun to make that joke.)<\/p>\n<p>Credit where credit is due, though, the schools (at least around me)\u00a0<em>are<\/em> celebrating our service members today with programs designed to teach students and honor our veterans.<\/p>\n<p>I hate to say it, but this isn&#8217;t the worst idea ever.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I was a kid Veterans Day was a holiday, a\u00a0real holiday with like businesses being closed and a day off from school.
