My name is Mike O’Connell and I live in Northern Virginia with my wife, son, and two cats. I moved here in 2011 after spending most of my life in upstate New York.
I have several different jobs. Actually, I wouldn’t call any one of them my “job.” I consider myself self-employed, but really… aren’t we all?
Most days I’m either teaching or playing music. By day I’m a teaching assistant for the Loudoun County (Virginia) Public School district. I’ve also been an adjunct college professor for most of the past eight years. Some terms I teach political science, some terms I teach history, and some terms I teach some combination of both. I love the study of politics and government, much more so than participating in elections firsthand.
In my other life I am a musician. My main instrument is the piano, and I’m a songwriter as well. I’m still trying to figure out whether politics is my hobby and music is my profession or vice versa, though I suppose it doesn’t matter.
For a more complete biography you can check out my forthcoming posts about various things I’ve done previously.
