Weezer brings it at Cap One

I’ve been a fan of the band Weezer for over 30 years (has anyone my age not been?), but until this past Friday night I had never seen them perform live. Having the opportunity to partake 20 miles from my house (Capital One Arena in D.C.)… I took advantage.

They call their shows “The Gathering,” sort of epitomizing the anti-establishment mainstream they’ve occupied for three decades. Big arena shows meant to feel like an intimate house party or better yet a garage party. Just a more expensive version. Basically it’s the “our fans have money now” tour, and as one of those fans, I didn’t mind shelling over a few bucks.

Did they play a bunch of their “new” stuff no one really cared about? Of course. But did they close out with all of their biggest hits? The ones from years starting with 19?

Duh.

That’s what the 45-year-olds were here to see.

It was fun to pretend I was 13 for a night.

Except now I’m 13 with money.

Awesome.
